Keeper of Her Heart

Updated: Sep 29
What happens when the person who once knew you better than anyone looks you in the eye and pretends you’re a stranger?
That is where Keeper of Her Heart begins.
This is Book 2 in my Her Heart series, and Allison and Pierre’s story is one I became deeply attached to because theirs isn’t a simple second chance.
They have history.
Messy, intimate, unfinished history.
They once loved each other in Paris, back when Allison was pushing herself through culinary school and Pierre was still trying to figure out how to ask for what he needed without turning it into pride. Their relationship didn’t end because they stopped caring.
It ended because they cared, hurt, stayed silent—and let each other walk away.
Two and a half years later, Allison is back in Texas and finally building the life she fought for.
She has survived burnout, bad kitchens, and the long climb toward becoming the chef she knows she can be. She’s determined to make her career her own this time—to work hard without disappearing inside it.
Then Pierre Couture walks back into her life.
Successful. Controlled. Infuriatingly handsome.
And their reunion is a disaster.
Not a cute disaster.
A you cannot possibly be serious right now disaster.
Because Pierre does something so spectacularly hurtful that Allison should want absolutely nothing to do with him.
Unfortunately, wanting nothing to do with someone becomes considerably more difficult when that person still knows you.
And when you still know him.
She remembers exactly what he refuses to eat.
He remembers the look on her face when she’s concentrating.
They remember Paris.
They remember the arguments.
They remember the quiet moments.
And beneath all the anger is the very inconvenient truth that two and a half years apart did not erase the connection between them.
That was what I loved most about writing this book.
Allison and Pierre aren’t learning how to fall for each other.
They already did that.
They have to figure out whether they can come back together without becoming the same people who broke each other the first time.
And neither of them makes that easy.
There is sharp banter, stubborn pride, French flirting, family interference, restaurant chaos, some very bad decisions made with very good intentions, and an extremely petty battle involving mushrooms.
There is also a lot of heat.
Because anger and attraction are apparently perfectly capable of occupying the same room.
But beneath all of that, Keeper of Her Heart is really about choice.
About loving someone without trying to control the outcome.
About helping without taking over.
About ambition without apology.
About learning to say I’m scared, I need you, or I was wrong before pride says something much more damaging.
And most importantly, it’s about realizing that love should never require someone to become smaller.
Allison gets to want the kitchen.
Pierre gets to want her.
The question is whether they can finally learn how to make room for both.
If you love second-chance romance, unresolved history, strong heroines, emotionally guarded men, sharp banter, delicious tension, found-family energy, food, French flirting, and two stubborn people who have to earn their way back to each other, I hope you’ll give Allison and Pierre a chance.
