The Inspiration Behind Always Been You

When I was writing my newest release, Her Perfect Match, I didn’t expect Aiden’s story to stay with me the way it did. There’s a brief moment where his cousin, Aubrianna, notices a photo on his phone—a blonde woman who clearly meant something to him. It was a small detail at the time, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more behind it.

I didn’t rush it. I’ve learned that some stories need time to breathe, to settle, to become something more than a passing idea. Sometimes that takes weeks. Sometimes it takes years. Always Been You was one of those stories that waited until I was ready to really understand it.

Aiden, at his core, is the kind of character I’m always drawn to—quiet, steady, deeply loyal. The kind of man who doesn’t always say what he feels, but shows it in the life he builds and the people he protects. I wanted to explore what happens when someone like that loses the future he thought was certain.

Daisy and Aiden’s story begins with love, but it’s shaped by fear, miscommunication, and the choices that follow. Daisy walks away from the life they planned, only to find herself caught in decisions that lead her further from the truth of what she really wants. By the time she returns home three years later—with a daughter and a past she can’t outrun—the emotional stakes are already high, and the consequences are impossible to ignore.

At its heart, Always Been You is a story about accountability, forgiveness, and the kind of love that doesn’t disappear just because life gets complicated. It’s about two people learning how to face what they’ve lost, what they’ve broken, and what they still might be able to rebuild.

Through co-parenting, difficult conversations, and the slow work of rebuilding trust, Daisy and Aiden find their way back to each other—not perfectly, but honestly. And for me, that’s what makes their story matter. Not the idea of a perfect romance, but the reality of choosing love again, even after everything.

If this story resonates with you, Always Been You is available now on Amazon.
