When Your Best Friend Might Be the Love of Your Life

For those of you who have been following my blog and the Making Love Count series, welcome back. I’m so glad you’re here.

And if you’re new, welcome! I hope you’ll stick around.

We’ve made it to book four in the series, and I have to admit, I have such a soft spot for this one.

As we continue working our way through this college friend group, Four Years Too Late puts Jules at the center of the story—and gives us a closer look at the relationship she has with Flynn, her next-door neighbor and one of her very best friends.

Except calling them “best friends” doesn’t quite tell the whole story.

Jules and Flynn basically function like a married couple.

They just aren’t dating.

He fixes things when they break. He shows up when she needs him. He knows her habits, her moods, what she likes, and probably what she wants for dinner before she’s figured it out herself.

And Jules has spent four years telling herself that this is completely normal best-friend behavior.

Flynn, meanwhile, has spent those same four years knowing it isn’t.

He’s been in love with her for years.

He just never told her.

Because sometimes admitting how you feel doesn’t only give you the chance to gain something. It gives you the chance to lose the person you can’t imagine your life without.

Things finally come to a head when Jules’s actual boyfriend points out the obvious: her relationship with Flynn doesn’t exactly look like a normal friendship from the outside.

And once that question is asked, it becomes a whole lot harder for Jules and Flynn to ignore what has been sitting between them all along.

Then one kiss changes everything.

Suddenly all those little moments—the familiarity, the teasing, the way they take care of each other, the way Flynn always seems to know what Jules needs—feel different.

Or maybe they were always different, and Jules just wasn’t ready to see it.

When Flynn finally admits that he’s had feelings for her for years, Jules has a decision to make.

Does she walk away from the relationship she’s in and risk everything for the man who has been beside her all along?

Or did Flynn wait four years too long to tell her the truth?

That question is really at the heart of Four Years Too Late.

Jules has worked hard to build a life that feels safe and predictable. Flynn knows exactly how much their friendship means to both of them, which makes crossing that line exciting, terrifying, messy, and very, very tempting.

And once they cross it, there’s no pretending they can simply go back to the way things were.

This is a story about friendship turning into something more, but it’s also about timing, vulnerability, found family, and realizing that sometimes the person who feels most like home is the person you’re most afraid to risk your heart on.

Because sometimes the person you’ve been searching for isn’t someone new.

Sometimes they’ve been right next door all along.

If you love friends-to-lovers romances, lots of banter, romantic comedy, found family, years of unresolved feelings, and plenty of heat once those feelings finally stop being unresolved, I hope you’ll give Four Years Too Late a try.

It’s available now on Amazon, and I would absolutely love for you to spend some time with Jules, Flynn, and the rest of the Making Love Count crew.

And if you’ve been reading the series from the beginning, thank you. Truly. Getting to keep telling the stories of this friend group—and knowing there are readers out there coming back to see whose turn is next—means more than I can say.

I hope you fall a little bit in love with Jules and Flynn.

They certainly took long enough to fall for each other.
